Whenever it comes to planning places to visit during summer holiday, we tend to choose the same old holiday destinations that we have been to many times before. Why don't we head to some new, lesser known and unexplored travel destination? Then you must explore some offbeat places in India which are yet unexplored and will give you a unique experience every time.

You can unearth your secret gem and experience nature in its raw form. You'll hardly be able to find these places on a map, but we've sorted the list and handpicked the best of the rest. And of course, plan in secret because you don't want that spot to fill up too quickly. So, here we have made a list of places to visit during summer where you should be ready to explore more.

 

Keibul, Lamjao 

A kingdom of waterways and floating grasslands in Manipur's Bishnupur district, Keibul Lamjao is the only floating national park on our planet. Initially, the park was declared a sanctuary in 1966, however, in late 1977, it was later elevated to the status of a national park. The area of the park is defined by phumdis – a local term referring to the floating mats of soil and vegetation that make this place the only one of its kind in the world. 80 percent of the park's vegetation is submerged, while the vegetation forms a 90–120 cm thick crust above the water.

Apart from the floating vegetation, a major attraction of the park is the Loktak Lake - India's largest fresh water lake. A major part of the lake also falls within the national park. Spread over an area of 40 sq km, this beautifully situated park has a unique and rare fauna which includes the endangered deer subspecies known as Sangai (found only in Manipur).

 

How to Reach?

From Imphal, Keibul Lamjao is located at a distance of about 53 km and is well connected by road. Both buses and taxis are available from Imphal that will take you to Kabul.

 

Lansdowne, Uttarakhand

Lansdowne is one of the few places in North India that is of British origin. You can do trekking, jogging, sightseeing, boating and many other activities. The place is surrounded by oak and deodar trees and is named after Lord Lansdowne. Who was the Viceroy of India from 1888-1894? The place provides an ideal holiday destination for a lazy and relaxing holiday and is easily accessible from any part of India, especially Delhi. It is an ideal offbeat destination near Delhi.

 

How to reach?

Lansdowne has good motorable roads. The nearest airport is at Dehradun and the nearest railway station would be Kotdwar (40 km away). You have various options to travel by train from all major cities to Kotdwara.

 

Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh

Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh is so blessed with beauty, grandeur and tranquility that one cannot ignore adding this place to their bucket list. visitindia. The nearest airport to Ziro Valley is at Jorhat (Assam) which is 188 km away. However, the nearest railway stations are located at North Lakhimpur and Naharlagun at a distance of 117 km and 102 km respectively. From Guwahati, there is a night bus available that takes you to Ziro.

 

Hemis, Ladakh

One of the best offbeat destinations in North India in the peaceful and serene regions of Ladakh. The village known as Hemis is famous for Hemis Festival and Buddhist monasteries. You can surely plan a long weekend trip to Hemis owing to its mystical nature and vivid wildlife.

And, if you are a wildlife lover, Hemis National Park will definitely impress you when you can spot the endangered snow leopard.

 

How to reach? 

Hemis is well connected via roadways and whatever you choose, railways or air travel to Leh, you will eventually reach Hemis via well connected roads.

 

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Spiti Valley is one of those offbeat places in North India that is lesser known but lesser visited. The valley is a cold desert amidst the mountains with lush green landscape and quiet villages. The valley is also popular for its cultural influence and Buddhism is largely followed in the region. 

Life has been peaceful for centuries with little interference from the outside world. The pristine nature will definitely make you fall in love with Spiti while the mesmerizing rivers will take you back in dreams.

Khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh

Nubra Valley, Ladakh

Nubra Valley is one of the best offbeat destinations in North India, especially popular with the mountain biking community. The valley comes under Ladakh where Nubra and Shyok rivers divide the region into two parts.The remote valley is one of the most stunning regions of the Indian Himalayas. The world's highest motorable road at 5,602 meters passes through the Nubra Valley which has given rise to many biking expeditions. The immense views of the area will make you want to take more pictures in your mind.

 

How to reach?

Nubra has an airport, railway station and bus terminal but only the biking community knows the best way to reach Nubra. Otherwise you can reach Leh Airport and Jammu Railway Station. From any of these places, you will need to hire a taxi to reach Nubra Valley.

 

Lonar Crater, Maharashtra

The Lonar Crater Lake in Maharashtra was formed as a result of a meteorite impact on the Earth. A notified National Geo-Heritage Monument, Lonar Crater supports microorganisms that are rarely found anywhere else on Earth. Apart from this strange fact, this place is also an ideal trekking spot in the region. This amazingly underrated tourist place in Maharashtra not only serves the travelers with the gifts of nature but one can also enjoy the unforgettable experience of wildlife and pilgrimage around this beautiful lake as it has many temples around it. Many migratory and local birds can also be seen here in the serene environment.

 

How to Reach?

Aurangabad Airport serves as the nearest airport to Lonar Crater which is located at a distance of 133 km. However, Jalna Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Lonar Crater which is located 79 km away. Aurangabad also boasts of good connectivity of road and highways. Apart from this, both private and government buses are also available from Aurangabad which pass through Jalna. It's good to land here; Regular buses ply from Jalna to Lonar Crater which takes around 2-3 hours to reach the destination.

 

Malana, Himachal Pradesh 

Malana is a mini Greece in India. It is isolated and known for its strong cultural roots and beliefs, ideal for spiritual seekers. Malana has two famous temples – Jamadagni Temple and Renuka Devi Temple, which are one of the major attractions of this place that you must visit when you are in Malana. Other popular places to visit in Malana include the pine-filled forests, Malana Dam, Chandrakheni, Dev Tibba Mountains, Parvati Valley, and more.

 

How To Reach?

To reach Malana, you need to reach Kasol and then a place called Jari. From Jari, various cabs are available which charge around INR 800 to drop you in the center of the village.
